DES MOINES, Iowa - As summer nears its end, thousands of Iowans are anticipated to flock to state parks and waterways this Labor Day weekend.
Because of that, the DNR is advising boaters to plan ahead, avoid peak hours, and abstain from alcohol consumption while on the water. Life jackets are a must, especially for children under 13, and safety equipment like fire extinguishers should be on board.
Beachgoers are reminded to stay within roped areas, avoid alcohol use, and swim with a buddy. State parks and campgrounds visitors are encouraged to stay hydrated, hike responsibly, and observe posted regulations.
Paddlers are urged to wear life jackets, check river conditions, and avoid sandbar crowds.
With increased beach activity, park staff suggest utilizing non-peak hours and days for a more relaxed experience. Remember to respect posted signs, drive cautiously within parks, and leave no trace.
