Two unique hunting seasons begin in Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa - Two unique hunting seasons are underway in Iowa. Rabbit and squirrel hunting seasons started over the holiday weekend in Iowa.

Officials expect a bountiful population of cottontail rabbits, while experts aren't quite sure about squirrel season. That's because squirrel populations depend on acorn production.

Rabbit hunting season runs through Feb. 28, of next year, with a daily limit of 10 rabbits and a possession limit of 20. Shooting hours span from sunrise to sunset.

Squirrel season runs through Jan. 31st, of next year and offers a daily bag limit of six squirrels in total, including red fox squirrels and eastern grey squirrels. There are no restrictions on shooting hours.

While blaze orange clothing is not mandatory, it is recommended for safety purposes. Shooting hours span from sunrise to sunset.
