DES MOINES, Iowa - Hunters gearing up for Iowa's pheasant season this weekend are reminded to prioritize safety.
Hunter education officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources are emphasizing that hunters review safe practices, including walking in straight lines and maintaining awareness of hunting party members, especially in low visibility areas.
Officials advise wearing ample blaze orange for visibility, exceeding the minimum requirement. Safety extends to hunting dogs, with a caution against low shots.
Communication, a well-defined hunting plan, and proper target identification are key components for a responsible and safe hunt.
Iowa law mandates wearing blaze orange apparel, and hunters are encouraged to share the hunting tradition with newcomers. More safety tips and information is available at iowadnr.gov.
