CLARINDA, Iowa - The Lied Public Library in Clarinda is having a former resident with deep ties to the KXCV/KRNW listening area come back for an author visit.
Dennis Smith, who recently released his fourth novel since retirement, will speak on Thursday, November 9 at 6:30 p.m.
Smith's latest novel, "War Is Hell, A Love Story," follows the life of Harvey Meyer, a character raised on a farm north of Bethesda during the Depression.
Trained as a cook in the Navy during World War II, Harvey returns home with a medical discharge, his wartime experiences shrouded in mystery.
Smith weaves real places and people from Clarinda into his fictional narrative, creating a captivating story. Smith's other works include "Missouri’s Secret" and two fiction pieces set in Denver.
