JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - In the early youth portion of Missouri's 2023 deer hunting season, young hunters between the ages of six and 15 showcased their skills, killing over 11,000 deer on October 28 and 29.

That's according to preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation. Franklin County led the tally with 258 deer, followed by Osage with 224, and Texas with 209.

The numbers included 6,857 antlered bucks, 3,410 does, and 851 button bucks. Despite the challenges posed by weekend rain, MDC officials noted that the cooler temperatures contributed to favorable deer movement.

Archery deer hunting continues, offering more opportunities for hunters until January 15.
