JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Conservation is introducing an early firearms antlerless deer season this weekend in specific counties. The season starts Friday and lasts through Sunday.
It aims to manage the deer population by allowing hunters to harvest antlerless deer before the regular November firearms season.
However, four northwest Missouri counties won't be open for this early antlerless season and will also be closed during the late firearms antlerless portion from Dec. 2-10. Those counties are Andrew, Atchison, Holt, and Nodaway.
Hunters need to be aware of county-specific limits on firearms antlerless permits that may be filled during all firearms deer hunting season portions combined.
Regulations permit various hunting methods during the early antlerless season, including bows, crossbows, rifles, shotguns, handguns, and muzzleloaders.
