JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - As hunting season kicks into gear, the Missouri Department of Conservation is reminding hunters of crucial pre- and post-hunting procedures.
MDC officials emphasize the importance of obtaining permits before heading into the field, as purchasing them after harvesting game is a violation.
After a successful hunt, hunters are required to "notch" their permits, invalidating them before transporting the animal. Notching involves marking the date and month of the harvest or using MDC’s MO Hunting App.
The final step is telechecking the hunted animal by 10 p.m. on the day it was taken. Officials also highlight the baiting regulations and the prohibition of placing bait or mineral in Missouri’s CWD Management Zone.
For more detailed information, hunters can refer to the “2023 Fall Deer and Turkey” booklet or visit mdc.mo.gov.
