JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri's appeals court has ruled unanimously that Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft's ballot titles for six proposals aiming to restore abortion rights were filled with politically partisan language.
On Tuesday, the court upheld the revised ballot titles written by Cole County Circuit Judge Jon Beetem.
The decision comes after an expedited process and marks a setback for Ashcroft, who stated he would appeal to the Missouri Supreme Court.
The ongoing legal battle could impact the timeline for gathering signatures, with backers aiming to secure over 170,000 signatures by early May to place the proposal on the 2024 ballot.
Abortion is completely banned in Missouri because of a state law that went into effect on June 24th, 2022, after the overturning of Roe V. Wade. You can travel out of state to get an abortion.
