JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri poultry producers, both commercial and backyard, are urged to reinforce biosecurity measures following recent avian influenza confirmations in Iowa and other state flocks this fall.
While no Missouri flocks are affected, producers are advised to watch for symptoms such as decreased water and feed consumption, quietness, reduced egg production, and a sudden spike in flock mortality.
Preventive measures include avoiding contact with wild birds, restricting visitor access, and cleaning vehicles and equipment. If symptoms arise, contact a veterinarian or the Missouri Department of Agriculture Animal Health Division.
While avian influenza poses no food safety risk, proper handling and cooking are essential. For more information, visit agriculture.mo.gov.
