ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Authorities say a structure fire claimed the life of a St. Joseph resident.

The St. Joseph Fire Department and the St. Joseph Police Department are investigating the fatal fire that did extensive damage to a house located in the 3200 block of South 22nd Street.

An assist call on the fire was issued just after eight o'clock Monday night, before the fire was brought under control later in the night. Upon arrival, crews discovered 53-year-old James Zent in a second floor bedroom.

Zent was transported to the emergency room at Mosaic where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy has not been performed yet. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
