OMAHA, Neb. - In a glimmer of economic optimism for the Midwest, Creighton University's monthly survey indicates a slight uptick in the region's economy for September.
The Mid-America Business Conditions Index rose to 52.5 last month, up from August's 49.5. While this suggests a stronger overall economy compared to the previous month, economists remains cautious, noting a slowdown in manufacturing.
The survey reveals that nearly half of supply managers foresee a recession by the first quarter of 2024.
Economist Ernie Goss anticipates another interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve, possibly in December, addressing concerns about inflation. The survey covers nine states, including Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas.
