October declared as Farm to School month

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri Governor Mike Parson has officially declared October as Farm to School Month, recognizing the vital contributions of school nutrition professionals, farmers, and ranchers in nourishing Missouri students.

Director of Agriculture Chris Chinn expressed gratitude for the connection between local farmers and school meals, emphasizing the importance of students understanding the origins of their food.

Schools are encouraged to participate in the Crunch Off, a nationwide event promoting Missouri-grown products.

Additionally, Missouri school districts and Early Childcare Education Centers can benefit from the Promoting Specialty Crops in Missouri Schools Grant Program, offering reimbursement up to $1,000 for purchasing local produce.
