ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Local farmer Larry DeShon has steered a $5,000 Bayer Fund America’s Farmers Grow Communities donation towards the Pony Express Museum.
The funds will facilitate the purchase of a secure showcase for an 1858 bible, a generous gift from Pony Express Founders.
Additionally, the museum plans to create a new exhibit titled “Native Americans Across the Pony Express Trail” using the remaining funds.
In a press release, the Executive Director of the Pony Express Museum expressed gratitude for the grant, highlighting the opportunity to properly secure the historic bible and fulfill a 10-year dream of showcasing Native American artifacts along the iconic trail.
The America’s Farmers program has awarded nearly $65 million since 2010.
