ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - In a recent announcement, the Allied Arts Council in St. Joseph revealed that the nonprofit arts and culture sector in Buchanan County played a significant role in generating over $20 million in economic activity in 2022.
This data comes from the Arts & Economic Prosperity 6 study conducted by Americans for the Arts, which assesses the economic impact of spending by nonprofit arts organizations and their audiences.
The study shows the $20 millions was nearly split by arts organizations and audiences, while supporting 374 jobs and generation about $1.6 million in local, state, and federal government revenue.
Officials highlighted the resilience of the arts and cultural sector in Buchanan County, stating that even in a post-COVID world, these institutions contribute significantly to the social and economic well-being of the community.
The study reinforces the idea that arts and culture play a crucial role as economic drivers in vibrant communities, both locally and nationally.
