JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - In a recent update from the Missouri Department of Conservation, preliminary data reveals that hunters harvested a total of 11,705 deer during the state’s new chronic wasting disease portion of the firearms deer-hunting season.

That portion was held from November 22nd through the 26th in CWD Management Zone counties. The breakdown includes 4,707 antlered bucks, 1,074 button bucks, and 5,924 does.

The CWD portion aimed to increase deer harvest in the CWD Management Zone, covering counties near where CWD has been found. The move is part of MDC's strategy to slow the spread of the disease.
