JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Conservation has announced mandatory Chronic Wasting Disease sampling during the opening weekend of the November portion of firearms season.
The firearms portion is November 11 and 12. Hunters in 39 designated CWD Management Zone counties must take their harvested deer or the head to one of MDC's sampling stations on the day of harvest.
This effort aims to collect tissue samples to monitor and manage the deadly, infectious disease. Hunters are reminded of carcass-movement restrictions, and sampling results are free.
The MDC encourages hunters to share their harvests through the Share the Harvest program, which helps feed hungry Missourians. More information is available at mdc.mo.gov.
