JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Conservation extends its gratitude to deer hunters who participated in the mandatory sampling efforts for chronic wasting disease during the opening weekend of the November portion of firearms deer season.
Over 20,600 deer were sampled for CWD testing on November 11 and 12. Hunters brought their deer to mandatory sampling stations, where MDC staff collected lymph node tissue samples for testing at an independent lab.
The high number of samples collected during this crucial weekend enhances MDC's ability to monitor and manage CWD, providing valuable insights into the disease's distribution and prevalence in Missouri's deer population.
