OMAHA, Neb. - In October, an economic index for our listening area revealed a second consecutive month above the growth neutral threshold, indicating economic expansion but remaining weak overall.

The Creighton University Mid-America Business Conditions Index dipped to 51.5 from September's 52.5.

The regional manufacturing economy experienced a decline from previous months, with 60% of supply managers anticipating an economic downturn in the first half of 2024.

Concerns were expressed about excessive inflation, labor shortages, and supply chain disruptions.

Despite lower inflationary pressures, supply managers expect wholesale inflation to rise by an average of 4.2% over the next six months. The index covers a nine-state region, including Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas.
