MDC makes adjustments to spring turkey hunting

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - In an effort to enhance hunting opportunities and address declining participation, the Missouri Department of Conservation has announced changes to turkey hunting regulations.

For the Spring 2024 season, shooting hours on private land will be extended from a half-hour before sunrise to sunset, while public land hours remain sunrise to 1 p.m.

In proposed changes for fall seasons, hunters would need a specific fall turkey-hunting permit, and the bag limit would be reduced from four to two birds.

The move aims to accommodate youth and working hunters during the spring, and reduce fall harvest while maintaining opportunities. Public comments on the proposals will be accepted next year, from February 2 to March 2.
