The Missouri Department of Conservation is calling on seasoned bird enthusiasts to become citizen scientists and participate in the National Audubon Society's 124th Christmas Bird Count.
The count begins and lasts through Friday, January 5th. This annual bird census engages thousands of volunteers across the U.S., Canada, and beyond in counting birds over a 24-hour period. The data collected aids in tracking the long-term status of various species and identifying large-scale trends in winter bird populations.
With approximately 20 CBCs in Missouri, interested participants can learn more about specific count circles and how to get involved at audubon.org.
