JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri Gov. Mike Parson has announced a $4.3 million investment to enhance maternal health services and reduce maternal mortality rates in the state.
The funding was proposed by Governor Parson and approved by the Missouri General Assembly.
The investment aims to transform the quality and accessibility of health services provided to pregnant women and during the postpartum period.
According to a press release from Parson's Office, Missouri currently ranks 44th in maternal mortality, with an average of 61 women dying annually during or within a year of pregnancy.
The comprehensive plan includes standardized care protocols, workforce training, improved postpartum care, a maternal health access project, and enhanced maternal health data.
Parson believes this initiative reflects a commitment to address preventable factors contributing to maternal mortality and improve outcomes for mothers and babies in Missouri.
