Dec. 19, 2023St. Joseph, Mo. | By: Jeremy Werner
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - St Joseph's Robidoux Middle School librarian Melissa Corey is among the distinguished recipients of the 2024 "I Love My Librarian" Award.
She was recognized for her impactful contributions to both students and the community.
Through different fundings and grants, Corey provided over 1,200 low-cost, high-quality books each semester, ensuring students take home three free books.
Termed a "book fair," this effort has distributed over 5,000 books reflecting diverse backgrounds. Corey's influence extends beyond her school, where she created Visual Book Lists, offering printable book recommendations.
As the 2022–23 president of the Missouri Association of School Librarians, she fervently advocated for intellectual freedom, even engaging in legal action against a state mandate.
Each awardee, including Corey, will receive a $5,000 cash prize and complimentary registration with a travel stipend for American Library Association’s LibLearnX conference in Baltimore.
