Nov. 9, 2023CONCEPTION JUNCTION, Mo.
Platte Valley senior forward Maggie Collins has left her stamp on girls basketball in the state of Missouri through 3 seasons – a three-time all-state selection, two-time state champ, and a 88-5 career record.
She's hoping to duplicate that success at Northwest Missouri State.
Collins officially signed to play for the Bearcats next season, continuing the family legacy at Northwest. Her mom, Mary Henry Collins, played for the Bearcats from 1991-1995.
When the opportunity arrived for Maggie Collins to follow in her mom's footsteps, she jumped at it.
"I've been in this area since I was little, I've always supported the Bearcats," Collins said. "They've always been my frontrunner, my dream."
"The recruiting process takes a long time, it's difficult. There's a lot of stuff behind the scenes that people don't really see, but in the end there was no other place for me. This is where I want to be."
The Bearcats are getting one of the top players in the state of Missouri. Through three years at Platte Valley, Collins has posted 1,327 points, 752 rebounds, and is shooting 64-percent from the field for her career.
Platte Valley head coach Tyler Pedersen knew her freshman year on that he had a special player in Collins.
"She's extremely coachable, she works as hard or harder than most athletes I've coached," Pedersen said. "Whenever you have a player like that who is then also gifted with all kinds of athletic ability, you kind of start thinking as a coach 'she might have the opportunity to play at the next level.'"
"She's been dominant her entire career."
Collins begins her senior season at Platte Valley on November 21 with a home matchup with Mid-Buchanan.
