Feb. 1, 2023MARYVILLE, Mo.
Maryville's Cooper Loe put pen to paper Wednesday morning to officially join Northwest Missouri State football.
Loe was a two-sport standout with the Spoofhounds and received Class 3 First Team All-State on offense and defenes for his senior football season.
Cooper Loe is the son of Northwest baseball coach Darin Loe, and was raised around the Bearcat athletic department. He said he always dreamed of what it would be like to suit up for Northwest.
"Growing up I thought that being a Bearcat was cool, and I always wished that 'whenever I'm older, I want to do that.' Growing up and growing into that, your perspective obviously changes a lot. It's a great football program. I just think it's pretty cool to go from this football program straight to Northwest."
Loe will go to Northwest to play linebacker, but his contributions at Maryville were felt all over the field. He led the Spoofhounds with 679 rushing yards, and racked up 15 touchdowns on the ground last fall. On defense, he picked up 107 tackles, four tackles-for-loss and four fumble recoveries.
Maryville head coach Matt Webb believes Loe will be able to make a smooth transition to the next level.
"A lot of what the Bearcats run defensively we try to emulate ourselves at the high school level, so there's a sense of comfort on just terminology and alignments, and what they ask their linebackers to do we've been asking Cooper to do for us for the last three years," Webb said. "He'll fit right in. There's a learning curve there, too, but definitely some familiarity scheme-wise."
Loe finished his Spoofhound career with a conference title and three straight district championships.
