The Maryville cross country teams each earned 2nd place finishes in the Midland Empire Conference meet Tuesday with Katherine Pohren taking home the top spot individually.

Pohren is the first girls individual champ from Maryville since Lydia Mitchell in 2016.  She finished the 5K in 20:54.

Spoofhound head coach Rodney Bade said Pohren continued developing as a runner last spring during track and is hitting her stride now. Bade said, "Thursday in Mt. Ayr, she made some tactical moves late in the race just showing us her racing IQ is getting better.  And she's getting a little braver.  Those girls kind of just sent it today and she was smart like we talked about.  And she pushed on the right sections.  She listened to me exactly over there and then just ran away with it.  We're just really proud of her."

Pohren's teammates Nyah Davis and Audrey Deering came across the finish line 4th and 5th, just a second and a half apart.

In the boys race, Bradley Deering put up a personal best time of 16:38 to lead the Spoofhound boys.

Chillicothe won the boys team title snapping Maryville's streak of 5 straight years as conference champs.
