Maryville High School senior Caden Stoecklein will be continuing his basketball career in Iowa next year.
Stoecklein signed his letter of intent to play for Grand View University in Des Moines. The Spoofhound guard averaged over 14 points per game while leading the team to a 23-win season, a second place finish in the Midland Empire Conference, and runners-up in the Class 4, District Tournament.
Stoecklein left his mark at Maryville finishing second in program history with over 1,300 career points, and he did it while playing for his father – head coach Matt Stoecklein.
"It was one of the best experiences I've had in my life," Caden Stoecklein said. "Him and I got along well, but he was able to make me grow as a player and got after me when I needed it. I couldn't be more thankful for the opportunity to play for my dad for four years. It sucks that it's over, but I'm definitely excited for the next chapter of my life."
Now Stoecklein heads to an up-and-coming Grand View University basketball program.
The Vikings posted an 8-20 overall record last season, and 6-and-16 in a very competitive Heart of America Athletic Conference.
Stoecklein will hear a familiar voice coaching him when he arrives at Grand View.
Maryville native Jackson Golightly is entering his second year as an assistant for the Vikings.
Golightly said Stoecklein was on their radar all year.
"I showed Coach Shaefer some film before the high school season started and said we need to keep an eye this kid for sure, because he's going to be a really good player. We ended up getting Caden up on a visit and I think he really enjoyed it."
Stoecklein was an All-Conference player this season for the Spoofhounds, and will haved the chance to compete for playing time at Grand View as a freshman.
