JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Despite the freezing temperatures we've had recently, last year was actually the Earth's warmest year.
The statewide average in Missouri was 57.4 degrees making 2023 its third warmest year on record and 2.9 degrees above the 1901-2000 average.
State Climatologist Zack Leasor says that the trend of warmer weather and dry conditions is concerning.
Leasor says this is leading to the agricultural water supply being lower than normal. He adds that if we don't see above average moisture the next few months, 2024 could be a difficult growing season for farmers.
