JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - It was a record hunt in Missouri. The state's deer-hunting season for 2023-24 concluded with a record 326,026 deer, surpassing the previous record set in 2006.
Of these, nearly 148,000 were antlered bucks, a little over 29,000 were button bucks, and over 149,000 were does. Top harvest counties included Franklin, Howell, and Texas.
The season saw increased hunting opportunities due to regulation changes and additional portions for antlerless and chronic wasting disease firearms.
The antlered buck harvest, the highest on record, was attributed to the new CWD portion. The increased antlerless harvest aligns with efforts to manage deer populations.
The season ended with no fatal firearms-related incidents reported. For detailed harvest data, visit mdc.mo.gov.
