JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - According to preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation, deer hunters wrapped up the alternative methods portion of firearms deer season with a robust hunt of 12,465 deer from December 23 to January 2.
The breakdown includes 3,130 antlered bucks, 1,450 button bucks, and 7,885 does. Leading the hunt were Callaway with 296, Franklin with 250, and Macon with 228.
This year's total marks an eight-percent increase from the previous five-year average and a significant uptick from the 8,724 recorded last year.
The archery deer and turkey season extends until Monday, January 15. You can stay up to date on harvest totals at mdc.mo.gov.
