NPPD reminds residents to stay safe during winter weather

COLUMBUS, Neb. - Winter weather can impact many things we rely on in our daily routines, including electricity.

The Nebraska Public Power District wants to remind customers of a few tips and items that can help stay ahead of potential power outages caused by winter weather.

NPPD Vice-President of Energy Delivery Scott Walz said if anyone were to come upon a downed powerline, they should clear the area. Getting to close or touching a downed line could result in serious or fatal injuries.

Additionally, a few key items to have handy in case you lose power are extra bateries, a flashlight, a portable radio, at least one gallon of water and a small supply of food.

The NPPD also notes that customers with access to a generator should make sure not to use it indoors and have it installed by a licensed electrician.
