ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - No charges will be filed in a St. Joseph Police officer-involved shooting that occurred last year.

Buchanan County Prosecuting Attorney Michelle Davidson made the decision after a thorough review of statements, videos, and police reports.

The incident unfolded on December 26th when officers attempted to stop a stolen U-Haul truck linked to multiple thefts.

After a pursuit, spike strips were deployed, causing the truck to lose control. Officer Justin McElroy approached, and the driver, 39-year-old Nicholas Glen Newton, pointed a stolen handgun at him.

McElroy discharged his weapon, but no injuries were reported. Newton was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.
