Red Oak man arrested for allegedly having gun on school grounds

RED OAK, Iowa - A 53-year-old Red Oak man has been arrested for allegedly carrying a firearm on school ground.

The Red Oak Police Department says Raymond Lester Simmons was arrested around 8:40 p.m. Monday night in the 1200 block of Boundary Street for carrying firearms on school grounds.

The arrest came after officers were called to the Red Oak High School during the Iowa caucus event about man in possession of a firearm.

Simmons was taken to the Montgomery County Jail. He faces a Class-D felony charge of carrying firearms on school grounds and is being held on a $5,000 bond.
