The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service has released the results of the 2022 Census of Agriculture in Missouri.
According to the census, Missouri saw a decline in the number of farms and ranches, down 7.8% from 2017 to 87,887 establishments. However, the average farm size increased by 5.8% , now standing at 308 acres, on 27 million acres of total farmland, a 2.7% decrease from 2017. In terms of production, Missouri farms and ranches generated $14.7 billion in agricultural products, reflecting an increase from $10.5 billion in 2017.
Notably, the census shows a rise in internet access among Missouri farms, climbing from 72.5% in 2017 to 75.9% in 2022. Direct sales to consumers also increased, with 3,215 farms generating $35 million in sales, a 15% rise from 2017.
