JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Trout fishing enthusiasts in Missouri are gearing up for the much-anticipated annual opening of catch-and-keep trout fishing.

Starting Friday, March 1, anglers will have the chance to reel in their prized catches until October 31. The daily limit stands at four trout, with an overall possession limit of eight across all four parks.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is all hands on deck, stocking approximately 20,000 trout across the parks for opening day.

Throughout the catch-and-keep season, the MDC will continue daily trout stocking, contributing to over 800,000 trout yearly at the four trout parks and one-point-five million statewide.

Trout enthusiasts must secure a daily trout tag. Additionally, Missouri residents aged 16-64 and nonresidents aged 16 and above need a fishing permit.

Anglers are encouraged to purchase permits ahead of time from various vendors statewide, online at mdc.mo.gov/buypermits, or through MDC's mobile apps.
