JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - As spring approaches, the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance and the State Emergency Management Agency are urging Missourians to consider purchasing flood insurance to safeguard against potential risks.
Despite over half of Missouri experiencing drought conditions, the threat of flooding remains significant, especially with the potential for heavy rainfall.
Even in areas not near water bodies, rainfall can lead to flash floods due to the inability of hard ground to absorb water efficiently.
Standard homeowner or renters’ policies typically do not cover flood damage, making it crucial for individuals to review their coverage or consider purchasing flood insurance.
Flooding is not only common, but also the costliest disaster in Missouri. For insurance inquiries, Missouri consumers can contact DCI’s Insurance Consumer Hotline 800-726-7390, or visit insurance.mo.gov/consumers.
