Glenwood PD introduces new equipment to safeguard individuals with cognitive conditions

The Glenwood Police Department has introduced a new initiative aimed at safeguarding individuals prone to wandering, including those with Autism, Down Syndrome, Alzheimer's, Dementia, and similar cognitive conditions.

Project Lifesaver is funded by a grant from the Jullia Rose Foundation. It equips officers with specialized kits costing $4,500 each, which emit radio signals detectable within a three-mile radius by police receivers. The bracelets worn by at-risk individuals send out these signals, enabling swift location in case of disappearance. Each kit, inclusive of a year's supply of batteries, costs approximately $350, offering caregivers and law enforcement peace of mind.

The department hopes to launch the pilot program by April 1st, with considerations for future expansion. To recommend individuals for the program, community members can call the Glenwood Police Station at 712-527-9920.
