DES MOINES, Iowa - Spring turkey hunters in Iowa are gearing up for what could be another banner season following record hunts in 2020 and 2023.

With three consecutive years of successful hatches, approximately 35,000 hunters are eager to hit the woods. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, two-year-old birds are driving the population.

The spring turkey hunt in Iowa is divided into four seasons, offering hunters a unique experience. Season one kicks off on Monday, April 8, with subsequent seasons following in the weeks ahead.

Hunters have the opportunity to purchase up to two tags, with at least one being for season four. Last year, hunters reported a record hunt of nearly 14,850 turkeys across all 99 counties.

Non-resident hunters also flock to Iowa for its prime turkey hunting opportunities, with applications for tags based on seasons and zones. More information about upcoming hunting seasons can be found at iowadnr.gov.
