CLARINDA, Iowa - Lied Public Library in Clarinda has been chosen as one of 310 libraries nationwide to participate in the second round of Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities, an initiative by the American Library Association aimed at enhancing accessibility and community engagement in small and rural libraries.
The selection comes with a prestigious $10,000 grant, empowering the library to install an assistive listening system tailored to improve the auditory experience for individuals with hearing aids or cochlear implants.
The project includes organizing a community conversation event on hearing loss, bringing together local stakeholders and health professionals to discuss challenges and potential solutions.
Staff members will undergo training to lead these crucial conversations, fostering empathy and understanding while addressing the specific needs of individuals with hearing impairments.
This initiative underscores the library's commitment to inclusivity, ensuring equal access to resources and events for individuals with hearing loss.
