It's Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Missouri and Kansas, and today is all about lightning safety.
Meteorologist with the National Weather Service, Scott Blair, says lightning can turn a mild storm into a deadly one.
He says if you hear thunder, lightning is close enough to strike you. He adds that you should leave elevated areas, avoid isolated trees, and seek shelter immediately in an enclosed building or vehicle.
