MARYVILLE, Mo. - Get ready to don your big hats and bow ties because the Kentucky Derby's 150th celebration is coming to Maryville.
On Saturday, May 4 from 4 to 8 p.m., the Black Pony Brewery will host a fundraiser for the Nodaway County Historical Society and Museum.
This event isn't just about horses and races—it's a nod to history. Nodaway County boasts its own Derby winner from 1904, Elwood, affectionately known as "the black pony."
Elwood made history as the first Derby winner bred and owned by women, thanks to Elizabeth Prather's breeding program at Faustiana Farms and Lasca Durnell's ownership.
To honor Elwood and celebrate this milestone, the NCHS Museum is teaming up with Black Pony for a special fundraiser.
Tickets are available on the Black Pony's website, and the first 50 registrants will receive a specially engraved mint julep cup.
Guests can look forward to watching the races and participating in several events at the fundraiser.
