MDC offering free dark skies event this month
HALE, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Conservation is inviting everyone to a celestial experience with a free Dark Skies stargazing event on Saturday, May 11 at the Little Compton Lake Conservation Area in northeastern Carroll County.
From 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., participants can immerse themselves in the beauty of the night sky. MDC staff from the Burr Oak Woods Nature Center will lead the event, joined by members of the Astronomical Society of Kansas City.
Telescopes will be available for viewing planets and stars, while a slide show. Attendees can aksi enjoy fishing and archery instruction, with gear provided, before taking a dinner break and awaiting nightfall.
Located in a Class 3 dark sky area, this rural spot offers minimal light pollution, making it perfect for stargazing. Camping is also an option, allowing participants to extend their stay and fully embrace the night sky.
