DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa counties in the KXCV/KRNW listening area, and beyond, affected by the tornado outbreak on April 26 now qualify for state disaster assistance, according to an announcement by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.

In response to the severe weather last week, Governor Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation on Tuesday for eight counties.

This proclamation enables the use of state resources to address the aftermath of the storms and activates programs like the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and Disaster Case Advocacy Program.

The covered counties include Clarke, Crawford, Harrison, Mills, Polk, Ringgold, Shelby, and Union.

Pottawattamie County had already been included in a previous declaration issued shortly after tornadoes swept through the area last Friday.

Under the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program, households with incomes up to 200% of the federal poverty level can receive grants of up to $5,000.

These grants can be used for various purposes such as home or car repairs, replacement of clothing or food, and temporary housing expenses.
