ALBANY, Mo. - A boil water notice was issued this week for Albany, including Gentry County PWSD 1 and New Hampton.

The notice follows the detection of bacteria in water samples collected on May 14 and E. coli in follow-up samples on May 17.

City Administrator Derek Brown says the boil order will remain until two tests confirm the water is safe. The second test was taken Wednesday.

The contamination was found at one of five sampling locations, and an investigation is ongoing.

Residents are advised to boil water vigorously for three minutes before use, avoid using ice made with unboiled water, and disinfect dishes with a bleach solution.

Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, brushing teeth, and food preparation.
