WASHINGTON - President Joe Biden has declared a major disaster in Iowa, providing federal aid to support recovery efforts after severe storms and tornadoes hit from April 26-27.
The declaration covers Clarke, Harrison, Mills, Polk, Pottawattamie, Ringgold, Shelby, and Union counties.
Federal assistance includes grants for temporary housing, home repairs, low-cost loans for uninsured property losses, and programs to help individuals and businesses recover.
Funding is also available for statewide hazard mitigation measures. FEMA will coordinate federal recovery operations in the affected areas. Additional areas may be designated for aid following further damage assessments.
Residents and business owners in the designated areas can apply for assistance at DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362), or using the FEMA App.
