DES MOINES, Iowa - In a collaborative effort, Iowa extension offices are offering tractor and machinery safety certification for teenagers.

On June 1, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach offices across eight counties, in partnership with the Southwest Valley Agricultural Education Program, will provide the necessary in-person training and testing for a U.S. Department of Labor Certificate.

This program targets 14 and 15-year-olds needing certification to operate tractors and machinery. This initiative has been running for four to five years, helping teens gain essential farming and machinery experience.

To participate, teens must first complete the AgSafety4U online course. The in-person training will be held at the Agrivision Equipment Group in Massena.

Registration is mandatory and can be completed by contacting the Adams County Extension office or via their Facebook page.

The registration deadline is this Friday, and the training session runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon. For more details, contact Chandler Arnold at 641-322-3184.
