Iowans reminded to buy firewood locally

DES MOINES, Iowa - Thousands of Iowans will be camping and building campfires throughout the summer. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources urges campers to buy firewood locally rather than bringing it from home.
Officials explain that moving unseasoned firewood can spread pests like emerald ash borer, oak wilt, and other harmful insects. Local firewood is readily available at state and county parks.
Campers should ask park rangers or campground hosts where to find local firewood. It's important to burn all firewood at your campsite and avoid transporting it to new areas.
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship mandates that all firewood sold or acquired in Iowa must include the county and state of harvest location on the label or delivery ticket for bulk firewood.
