RED OAK, Iowa - Emergency Management Director for Montgomery County Brian Hamman reported four confirmed tornadoes during a Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday.

The first tornado struck the Coburg area, with the most significant damage occurring in Red Oak last Tuesday. Another tornado hit last Friday morning, damaging homes, trees, and grain bins.

Hamman detailed that 31 residential properties were affected: three destroyed, five with major damage, 11 with minor damage, and 12 others impacted from Tuesday to Friday.

Infrastructure, particularly secondary roads, suffered extensive damage, including culvert destruction due to flash flooding, gravel loss, and tree removal.

The Villisca Tower Site was destroyed. The Public Works area incurred a $350,000 hit, specifically to the Street Department Building, and it remains uncertain if the structure or vehicles are a total loss.

Montgomery County received a Presidential Disaster Declaration on Friday.
