NEOLA, Iowa - National Alliance on Mental Illness Southwest Iowa is excited to announce its very first NAMI-Walks event, scheduled for this Saturday at Neola City Park.

This initiative, part of the nationwide effort by the NAMI, aims to raise awareness about mental health issues and dismantle the stigma surrounding mental illness.

Officials with NAMI-Walks say it's not just a walk; it's a movement to foster unity and spread hope within the community. The event kicks off at 9 a.m., with registration opening at 8:30 a.m.

Participants will embark on a peaceful walk around the newly paved walking path at Neola City Park, symbolizing solidarity in the fight for mental health awareness.

The opening ceremony, slated to begin at 10 a.m., will feature inspiring speaker Mary Ann Hanusa, former Iowa State Representative.

Attendees will have the opportunity to share stories and engage in various activities throughout the day.
