ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The St. Joseph School District will soon start searching for a new Superintendent following the announcement of Gabe Edgar's retirement.

The Board of Education accepted Edgar's letter of intent to retire at the end of the 2024-25 school year, with his resignation effective on June 30, 2025.

Board members unanimously approved Edgar’s retirement in a closed meeting on Wednesday night.

Edgar, who has 28 years of experience in public education, began his career as a business teacher and coach in the Marceline R-V district, later serving as superintendent for 11 years.

He joined the Saint Joseph School District in 2019 as Chief Financial Officer and became superintendent in July 2022.

During his tenure, Edgar led significant initiatives, including the passage of a 61-cent renewal levy in August 2022, which funded salary increases, additional support staff, and upgrades to school facilities.

In April 2024, a no-tax increase bond was approved to enhance fine arts and science programs, improve HVAC systems, and upgrade athletic facilities and infrastructure.
