DES MOINES, Iowa - The popular Trees for Kids grant program in Iowa is now accepting applications through August 26.

The program offers up to $2,500 for purchasing trees and mulch, with all trees required to be planted on public community grounds such as parks, community centers, or public schools.

Youth participation is essential, as they will help plant the trees. Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural

Resources say that planting trees helps connect kids to nature, build their sense of wonder, and explore the benefits trees provide to their school and community.

Research shows that trees around schools and neighborhoods improve concentration, reduce aggression, combat obesity, and alleviate ADHD symptoms in children.
